940 2:a giftet.

945 3-5-1999-SOURCE: MIKAEL ENG - RESEARCHER IN SWEDEN - All the sources I have used is
husförhörslängder and birthbooks from Hällestad parish:

I started to look in the in and removed-book 1879 for Hällestad parish and there I found Carl Gustaf Pettersson and now we know his wife and son left togheter with him. The exact note is:

Arb. Carl Gustaf Pettersson, hustru och son (3) (Arb=abbreviation for worker. hustru=wife, son=son)
Änkan Anna Andersdotter (Änka=widdow). (1) They have not named wife and son by their name only as fellow passengers and we can also see Anna is a widow.

I then started to look at the "husförhörslängder" and födelseböcker (birthbooks) to locate parents and if there was any brothers and sisters. I use the spelling as I saw it written down.

Carl Gustaf Pettersson was baptized on February 29, 1852.

(This birth info might not be correct, Carl Gustav and Johanna both lived in Romestorp.) Both C.G and Johanna were born on either a big farm with crofters holdings or in a very small village called Romestorp. In the books it says C.G
s family lived at Romestorp 207 and Johanna's at 203.
I will try later to figure out Romestorps exact location.

Hello Jane!

I found this family:

Carl Gustaf Pehrsson born Feb. 28, 1852 in Hällestad parish
w.Johanna Hellerstedt born Jan. 21, 1854 in Hällestad parish
s.Carl Detlof born Oct. 10, 1878 in Hällestad parish
The widow Anna Stina Andersdotter born Sept. 20, 1809 in Stjärnorp parish
This family got their moving letter (flyttningsbetyg) for America in 1879. At that time they lived at the farm Rometorp in Hällestad parish.
(Source: Hällestad household record (husförhörslängd) 1879, page 237)

I also searched for them in the Swedish passengerlists on CD Emigranten. I found this information:

Anna Andersdotter, 69 years old
C.G.Petterson, 27 years old
They left for America from the port of Göteborg on June 13, 1879. They are listed as comming from Hellestad parish, Östergötland county and they had a ticket for Red Oak. Source code: 13:333:6845.

I don't know why Johanna and Carl Detlof aren't listed with them in the passengerlist. Perhaps the person who made the database made a mistake? To find out about that you have to write to the archive in Göteborg and ask what's in the passengerlist. It is also possible that Johanna and Carl Detlof emigrated later, but I can't find them anywhere in the passengerlists.

Good Luck!

Hi!

Today I got the right records and I have this information to give. I know that I haven't any that you don't know before but I have to start with some known facts. Now I can search in some other records. It will take some time but as soon asI know something you will have it.

Hällestad parish 1852-1856 AI28 page 207

Rometorp
Crofter (pay rent with work)
Per Jansson born December 11 1820 in Almby parish, Örebro län. Move in to Hällestad parish 1850 from Regna parish
Wife Anna Stina Andersdotter born October 10 1809 in Hällestad parish. Move in to Rometorp in 1842 from Brâtfall in Hällestad parish.
Son Per Johan born December 20 1835 in Hällestad parish
Son Carl Gustaf born February 28 in Hällestad parish, baptized February 29
Daughter Johanna Andersdotter born November 14 1838 in Hällestad parish

The last name to Johanna b 1838 told that she got a father Anders. I think both she and Per Johan b 1835 is children to Anna Stina for her first marriage perhaps. I will check this in another record.

You will have some more information later on when I have borrow new records.

Regards
Barbro

Mrs. Johanna Peterson and Family.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Peterson Family went from Goteborg (Gothenburg) Sweden to Hull, England on the ship Orlando. Then they probably tooka train to Liverpool England and boarded another ship for America. (At this time, Nov 1999, I do not know what ship thatwas). Here is information on the ship Orlando.

ORLANDO
"Orlando" belonged to the Wilson Line of Hull and was a 1581 gross ton
vessel, built by Earle's of Hull in 1869. She was a 260ft long vessel, beam 32.2ft and sailed between Baltic and North Sea ports and Hull where passengers could board a train direct to Liverpool for transatlantic steamers. This ship was sold in 1909 to the French owner, Paul Castinie of Oran and renamed "Algerie". She later went to Turkish owners and was renamed "Vellissarious" and was wrecked at Canea in 1924. Wilson Line did run a service from Hull to New York from 1875 andfrom 1896 in conjunction with the Furness-Leyland Line from London. They were never very successful as a transatlantic passenger company and ceased this service in 1916. Their ships used on the Hull - Southampton - New York
service in 1876 were:- Othello, Virago, Columbo, Navarino, and Hindoo. There is an excellent book on the company's ships, services and history called The Wilson Line of Hull, 1831 - 1981 by Arthur G.Credland and Michael Thompson, published by Hutton Press, 130 Canada Drive, Cherry Burton, Beverley, East Yorkshire, UK, HU17 7SB ISBN 1 872167 58 6. It doesn't contain a picture of the "Orlando" but does have photos of numerous other similar ships of the period.[Posted to The ShipsList by Ted Finch - 13 November 1997]

The "Orlando" of 1876 was a 1,473 gross ton ship, built by C & W. Earle, Hull for Thos. Wilson, Sons & Co. Her details were - length 260.4ft x beam 32.2ft, one funnel, two masts, accommodation for 44-1st, 36-2nd and a considerable number ofsteerage class passengers. Launched in Dec.1869 and used on the Baltic and North Sea routes, she was lengthened to 274ft, 1,610 gross tons in 1878 and re-engined in 1897. Sold to P. Castanie, Oran in 1909 and renamed "Algerie", again renamed "Dzezair" in 1913, and sold to J. Avranitidi, Constantinople in 1914 and named "Velissarios". In March 1914 she was laid up at Constantinople and in Nov.1914 was inspected by German and Turkish Naval officers for possible use as a transport, but rejected as being in too poor a condition. In
1916 she was taken up by the Turkish navy due to heavy losses of Turkish ships and placed under the management of Osmanli SS Co. Renamed "Umit"
she was again laid up in 1919 until 1922 when she was used as an army transport in the Black Sea. In 1923 she was sold to Turkish owners and renamed "Umid", and on 17th Mar.1924 was wrecked on the breakwater at Carodia while on passage to Crete to rescue Turkish refugees.[Wilson Line by John Harrower] - [Posted to The ShipsList by Ted Finch - 17 October 1998]

7-9-1999 - The following information is from a lady in Sweden that does research. She got the information from assorted records on CD's.

Hello Jane!

I searched for the Hellerstedt family in the Swedish passenger lists on CD Emigration. This is what I found:

w.Hedda, 43 years old
s.Johan, 19 years old
d.Thekla, 17 years old
s.August, 15 years old
d.Lydia, 10 years old
s.Frans, 8 years old

This family left for America from the port of Göteborg on April 9, 1886. They are listed as comming from Godegård parish, Östergötland county (sometimes called Linköping county) and they had a ticket for Minneapolis. Source code: 28:296:2437.

I also searched the database I have with emigrants from several Swedish parishes. It is based on the Swedish household records (husförhörslängder). I found the family there too:

The rolling-mill worker
Johan August Hellerstedt born Jan. 9, 1845 in Hällestad parish
w. Hedda Beata Hagström born Nov. 8, 1843 in Bo parish
s.Johan Melker born April 7, 1867 in Bo parish

This family got their moving letter (flyttningsbetyg) for America on March 23, 1886. At that time they lived at Flemingeiron mill in Ekeby parish, Östergötland county.
(Source: Ekeby household record (husförhörslängd) 1886, page 288)

Hällestad, Godegård and Ekeby parishes are in Östergötland county
Bo parish is in Örebro county
Dunker parish is in Södermanland county
Säfsnäs parish is in Kopparberg county

Hope this will help a little!

Good Luck!
