Gifford worked as a machinest for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1977 -1980. Gifford attended school in Omaha, Columbus & North Platte, NE. Pallbearers at funeral: Jack Anthony, Clyde Chandler, Robert Gerrard Sr., Charlie Jones, Leon McMorris, Larry Schnell. Honorary Pallbearers: All of Gifford's friends. Gifford was 66 years old at the time of his death.

    SOURCE: Libby Tuccitto 1997 - Gifford suffered from asthma most of his life. Earlier years he was a movie projectionist in Holdrege and North Platte, NE. He showed movies in North Platte at The State Theater, Fox Theater, Paramount Theater and the local outdoor drive-in theater.

He died at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 26 days. He was attended by a doctor from August 10, 1935 - December 6, 1935 and the time of death was at 12:30 am on December 6, 1935. McKown Funeral Home, Columbus, Nebraska was in charge of the funeral.

    December 07, 1935 Short death notice in Columbus newspaper. No family or survivors listed. McKown Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. The services were held at the United Methodist Church in Columbus, NE. Burial was in David City Cemetery in David City, NE.

    OBITUARY: Carl D. Peterson Dies: Following an illness of several months duration, Carl D. Peterson, 57, electrician, passed away at 12:25 am today at his home. He had been in ill heath since last March and was bedfast at his home since October 13. In the fall he spent four weeks in Lincoln at the General Hospital. His death was due to cancer. He was born in Hällestad, Sweden on October 10, 1878 and came to this country with his parents when he was but 8 months old. The familyresided until 1884 at Red Oak, Iowa and then moved to Stromsburg, Nebraska. His father was a blacksmith and followed histrade where ever the family made their home. In 1900 they moved to Thayer, Nebraska and later to Surprise, Nebraska. Itwas while residing there that he met Miss Ethel Estelle Rabb of David City, Nebraska to whom he was married in Schuyler, Nebraska on October 4, 1910. For a year and a half they made their home in Surprise, where Mr. Peterson, who was an electrician, had employment. From Surprise, Nebraska they moved to Schuyler, Nebraska and then two years later to Columbus, Nebraska. Mr. Peterson accepted a position with the Columbus Light, Heat and Power Company. Later they returned to Schuyler, Nebraska for a short time, but in 1923 came back to Columbus and have resided here since. Mr. Peterson entered the employ of the Northwestern Public Service Company after they took over the Columbus Light, Heat and Power Company. Hehadbeen in the employ of the two companies for nearly 20 years.

    Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Miss Eula and one son, Gifford, both of Columbus, five sisters, Mrs. Guarda Price of Bashaw, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Hilma Sanders, Mrs. John Sabin and Mrs. Martha Hill, all of Los Angeles; and Mrs. P. W. Christensen of Denver, Colorado; and five brothers, Harvey Peterson of Beatrice, Nebraska; Gus Peterson ofLong Beach, California; Otto Peterson Of San Diego, California; and Frank Peterson and Andy Peterson of Los Angeles, California.

    Mrs. Peterson's brother, Stewart Rabb of North Platte, Nebraska arrived here Tuesday evening and Mrs. Rabb will arrive tomorrow evening. Mrs. Peterson's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Rabb of York, Nebraska, came here today and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. & Mrs. Marion Eckley (Ed) Piatt, of Omaha, Nebraska, also came here today. Funeral services have not been made, pending word from his relatives in California. The body is at the McKown Funeral Home, Columbus, Nebraska.

    SOURCE: MARRIAGE RECORD: Ethel states that she was born in Galesburg, MO. No record has been found in Jasper County Missouri of her birth. Her birth place should be Burlington Junction, Nodaway County, Missouri.

    DEATH CERTIFICATE - Ethel Estelle Rabb died in the morning of March 23, 1973 at the Valley View Nursing Home, in North Platte, NE. She was attended by Dr. William B. Niehus of North Platte. The cause of death was a possible cerebral vascular accident or myocardial infarction as a consequence of arteriosclorosis.

    NOTE: Ethel had fallen in the bath tub and hit her head on the cold water faucet creating a slow cold drip on her head which in turn had probably kept further complications from happening. Ethel lived across the street from her daughter Eula. Every morning Ethel would get up and raise the blinds, so Eula would know she was all right. On the morning of January 13, 1973, when Eula got up and looked out, the blinds were not up. She went to check on her mother, Ethel, and found her lying in the tub.

    March 05, 1973 Officiating: Rev. Gilbert Yeryin, David City Congretional Church, David City, NE. She was 89 years old when she died. Ethel is buried at the David City Cemetery, David City, NE. Ryan & Tickle Funeral Home, North Platte, NE was in charge of the funeral arrangements and Ethel was buried next to her husband, Carl Detlov Peterson, in the David City Cemetery, David City. She had 4 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren.

    OBITUARY - NORTH PLATTE TELEGRAPH BULLETIN - March 1973

    ETHEL PETERSON

    Ethel Estella Peterson, 89, 2106 West Third, died Friday morning in a North Platte nursing home. She was born March 23, 1883 at Burlington, MO.

    Survivors include one daughter and one son, Mrs. Lawrence (Eula) Krause and Gifford Peterson, both of North Platte; two sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Brockett of Carlisle, Iowa and Mrs. Emma Miller of Minneapolis, MN and four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

    Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm Monday in the David City Cemetery with the Rev. Gilbert Yeryin of the Congregational Church of David City, officiating.

    Ryan and Tickle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    LOCATION OF GRAVE: Enter cemetery, turn right, then turn left at the next to the last road. Ethel's grave is located at the far end of the road on the left, 16th marker from the end of the road. Ethel's grave - NE; NE, NW1/2, Lot 13, Block21. Carl's grave - NE, NW14, Lot 13, Block 21. Carl's grave is the 17th marker from the end of the road. Myron Kilgore is the person in charge of the cemetery records. He lives in David City.

    A headstone was placed on Ethel's grave by her two grandaughter's Jane Case and Pat Mozley by Memorial Day 1997.
