When I read tube technology during my time
in high school I dissected my grandmothers old tuberadio, simply
stripped it down to play guitar on it.
The powersupply from that radio became the ground for my until
now only tube amplifier construction. A somewhat more powerful
output transformer was obtained. The radio keept an ECL86 as outputstage
and my construction consists of an EL84. I really should have
a mainstransformer with a little more strength. On the other hand
it contributes with saggy anodvoltage, with power increase, to
some nice compress and sustain.
Haven't used it much in particular but it's a good amplifier to
practice on since it doesn't leave more then about 5-6 watt output
power.
The construction is a mix from schoolbooks,
old schematics on amplifiers and my own thoughts together with
tube carachteristic charts. The pre stage is an ECC83 with tonecontrol
between the triods. The endstage is an EL 84 in class A, Totally
without negative feed back for highest gain. No other unusually
sollutions.
My original rough draft is gone so at the moment I'm in the progress
of drawing a circuit diagram of the amp which is built on PCB
and mounted in a chipboard box á la mini Marshall. Once
thought about to cover it in vinyl but it didn't went that way
and the vinyl was thrown away last move. The amplifier is dependent
on external speaker. I have my thoughts about building another
combibox and put in some of the new produced Vintage elements
you can see everywhere. Up to now no high priority.
What are your experience and constructions
?
